Final Stats

Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Salukis swept a softball doubleheader from the Saint Louis Billikens, 2-0 and 3-0 in Carbondale, Ill. The hot Salukis have now won seven straight games. SIU' s pitching staff held the Billikens' bats to just five hits in the two games.

In game one, Jen Guenther doubled in both Saluki runs and Renee Mueller surrendered three hits to SLU. Guenther laced a two-bagger in the third for the only run SIU would need. She closed out the scoring with a double in the bottom of the fifth. The Billikens could only manage three singles by Adrie Bogaars, Janet Venorsky and Kerri Higgins. Billiken starter Heather Hubert struck out three but was the tough-luck loser.

SIU starter Amy Harre was even better in the second game and allowed just two hits and struck out six to pick up the 3-0 win. The Salukis scored two runs on Billiken errors and Guenther again supplied a critical hit in the sixth to seal the win. Nicole Bohnenstiehl and Beth Yagge both singled to account for the only SLU hits of the game. Bohnenstiehl K'd seven batters and allowed just one earned run, but was dealt the loss.

The Billikens dip to 12-13 while the Salukis improve to 18-8.
