Final Stats
St. Louis -
Nicole Bohnenstiehl limited Charlotte to just three hits in a 2-0 shutout of the 49ers at The Billiken Sports Center on Sunday. The victory completed Saint Louis' first-ever three-game Conference USA sweep. The win marked the first time in school history the Billikens have thrown three straight shutouts.
The Billikens tallied two runs in the first and Bohnenstiehl made the lead stand the rest of the way. Erin Jeffery started the bottom of the first with a single to right, Kerri Higgins sacrificed her over to second, and Bohnenstiehl helped herself with a double to right to stake the Billikens to a 1-0 lead. Adrie Bogaars singled and Janet Venorsky doubled to left to plate Bohnenstiehl for a 2-0 margin.
Charlotte did not get a hit off of Bohnenstiehl until Autumn Lawson began the fifth with a double to center. But, Bohnenstiehl retired three straight 49ers to end the threat. With one out in the sixth inning, Nora Petrie reached on a fielder's choice and Stephanie Dunlap drew a walk. A grounder by Leah Heston pushed both runners into scoring position, but Bohnenstiehl struck out Kristen White to end the inning. She struck out 10 batters on the day and K'd at least one hitter in every inning. The Billikens out-hit the 49ers 8-3.
The Billikens win their seventh game in a row to move to 20-19 overall, 4-12 in Conference USA. The seven-game streak ties the school record for longest winning streak. Charlotte dips to 18-24, 2-12 in C-USA.
