Final Stats
St. Louis -
Saint Louis and Houston split a Conference USA softball doubleheader at The Billiken Sports Center on Saturday. Cougar pitcher Jamie Falco threw a no-hitter as Houston took game one 6-0. Nicole Bohnenstiehl lashed a single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh as the Billikens won game two 2-1.
Falco was splendid for the Cougars in holding the Billiken bats silent. She struck out 12 and walked just two in facing one over the minimum batters. Houston tallied the only run they would need in the second. Kristen Glowacz singled and stole second. She moved to third after a ground out and scored on Kim Nesloney's sac fly. The Cougars added a run in the third and two in both the fifth and sixth innings. The Billikens two baserunners reached on walks but neither reached second base. Falco had at least one strikeout in every inning to pick up her 13th victory on the season. Riane Netardus and Ali McDougal both had three hits to pace Houston.
In the second game, both teams tallied single markers in the fifth, before Bohnenstiehl won it for SLU. In the UH fifth, Lindsay Durham led off the inning with a single and Leslie Seay followed with a bunt single. An infield single by Riane Netardus loaded the bases. Ali McDougal hit a sac fly to center to score Durham for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Erin Jeffery singled and Kerri Higgins singled through the middle. Kerri Higgins reached on a fielder's choice. Beth Yagge walked to load the bases. Bohnenstiehl delivered the game-winning single for the 2-1 margin. Bohnenstiehl picked up the win with five strikeouts in throwing the complete game. The victory was her 10th of the season. Falco took the loss for Houston after scattering seven hits.
The Billikens move to 21-22 overall, 5-13 in Conference USA. Houston is now 29-20, 6-10 in C-USA.
