Bulls Down Bills In Softball Action 1-0 and 10-1

Tampa, Fla. - The South Florida Bulls took two Conference USA softball games over the Billikens in contrasting fashion, winning game one 1-0 and cruised to victory in game two 10-1. South Florida's pitching was outstanding in the doubleheader, limited the Billikens to just five hits over the two games.

The Bulls tallied an unearned run as the only run of the game to win a sparkling pitching duel 1-0. Stephanie Roberts led off the game with a lead off walk. After stealing second, she advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a Billiken throwing error. Both starting pitchers were outstanding, combining to allow only five hits. SLU starter Nicole Bohnenstiehl surrendered only two singles while USF's Corin Tassio gave up just three hits. Bohnenstiehl struck out five while Tassio K'd two and allowed just five baserunners.

In the second game, the Billikens pushed across a run to take an early 1-0 lead. Bohnenstiehl sinlged with two outs, and Adrie Bogaars drew a walk. Beth Yagge singled to center to score Bohnenstiehl with SLU's first run of the afternoon. In the bottom of the first, USF tallied four runs, all with 2 outs. Holly Groves hit a double up the middle, to plate Shelly Riker and Stephanie Roberts. Ginny Georgantas then hit a double to right, scoring Groves. Georgantas scored on Renee Oursler's single to make it 4-1. After the Bulls scored one run in the second, USF put the game away with five runs in the third. Niki Trowell surrendered only two hits to pick up her ninth win of the season.

The Billikens fall to 22-26 overall, 5-16 in Conference USA. The Bulls improve to 22-30-1 overall, 7-10 in C-USA.
