The No. 16 DePaul Blue Demons swept a doubleheader from the Saint Louis University Billikens in Conference USA softball action in Chicago on Saturday. DePaul won game one 5-2 and the nightcap 4-2. The Billikens scored first in both games, but DePaul rallied in each game. The first place Blue Demons have won seven straight games.
In game one, Kerri Higgins reached on a fielder's choice and took third on Nicole Bohnenstiehl's single. Adrie Bogaars RBI scored Higgins as the Billikens took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Heather Hubert kept the Demons off the board until they struck for four in the third. DePaul used six hits, including three doubles, aided by a SLU error to push across four runs. In the sixth, the Bills added a run. Bohnenstiehl reached on an error and took second on another DePaul miscue. She moved over to third on a fielder's choice and scored on Heather Hubert took the loss for SLU.
The Billikens took the early lead in the second inning of game two. Adrie Bogaars walked leading offand Beth Yagge doubles. Kalee Reichert singled Bogaars in for a 1-0 advantage. However, the Billikens could not extend their lead and had a runner thrown out at home on a force play. SLU made it 2-0 when Riechert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to foce Erin Jeffery in. DePaul halved the lead with a run in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth. The Blue Demons used three hits around a sac bunt and were helped by a SLU error in scoring three innings. Sarah Martz picked up the win while Chouinard closed out the game for the save. Bohnenstiehl went the distance for the Billikens, scattering seven hits, but was on the hook for the loss.
The Billikens slip to 13-19 overall, 1-12 in Conference USA. The Blue Demons improve to 21-6, 9-1 in C-USA.
