Saint Louis Field Hockey Travels to Evanston to Face Northwestern

Evanston, Ill. - Northwestern dominated Saint Louis 7-0 Friday at the Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex to improve its overall record to 8-8 while the Bills fell to 2-14 with one match remaining in the regular season.

Northwestern's Megan Small scored the first of two goals only 2:08 into the match to give the 'Cats a 1-0.

Christine Nannicelli took a pass from Diane Provencher and beat SLU goalkeeper Julie Moeckel at 16:42 to put the Wildcats ahead 2-0.

Small added her second goal of the match less than 11 minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal at 27:18 to give NU a 3-0 lead.

Nannicelli capped the first-half scoring for the 'Cats when she got past Moeckel on a penalty stroke with the clock reading 00:00.

Senior Katie Walshauser got into the scoring column when she tallied a goal at 44:21 to extend the Wildcat lead to 5-0.

Four minutes later, Provencher took a Suzi Sutton pass for the Wildcats' sixth goal of the match. Moeckel was replaced by backup goalie Meredith Boyle.

Sutton finished the scoring at 66:47 when she lifted a shot past Boyle off a penalty corner. Nannicelli, who stopped the entry pass, was credited with an assist.

Saint Louis will host SMS (5-12) on Sun., Nov. 2, at 12:30, for Senior Day. The Billikens will honor Alisa Hebert and Lindsay Lombardo in the season's final home match.

Saint Louis is the host school for the sixth annual NorPac League Championship Thu., Nov. 6-8. The championship will offer 10 games in three days with the championship game starting at 12:30 on Sat., Nov. 8. NorPac schools include Appalachian State, Davidson, Radford and Saint Louis in the East Division with SMS, Cal, Pacific and Stanford in the West. Parking and admission is complimentary during the tournament. Games on Thursday and Friday are scheduled for 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. The third place match will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
