Final Stats

Nacogdoches, Texas - The Saint Louis University softball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader to Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday. The Lady Jacks won game one 3-0 and took the second game by a 3-2 count. In the bottom of the second inning of game one, senior pitcher Nicole Bohnenstiehl (Lebanon, Ill. / Lebanon) became SLU's all-time strikeout leader with 428. She broke the previous career mark of 427 set by Mikki McPherson from 1990-93 and now has 434 strikeouts in her career.

In the first inning, Stephen F. Austin used a triple by Carrie Woydziak and an RBI single by Jaime Brown to take a 1-0 lead. Adrie Bogaars reached on a Lady Jacks error and moved to second, but was stranded there. In the bottom of the second, Bohnenstiehl tied the career strikeout record by setting down Tara Hersey. Brooke Chandler was Bohnenstiehl's 428th strikeout victim, but she reached base on an error by the Billiken catcher. SFA pushed across two runs in the fifth to seal the win. The Bills put the first two runners on in the top of the seventh when Bohnenstiehl singled and Adrie Bogaars drew a walk. After two outs, Adrienne May had an infield single to load the bases, but the Billikens were unable to plate a run. Bohnenstiehl allowed just two earned runs in finishing with nine strikeouts.

In game two, Stephen F. Austin scored a run in the bottom of the fifth for the game-winning run in the 3-2 game. The Lady Jacks again struck for a run in the first. A solo home run by Brooke Chandler in the fourth inning put SFA up 2-0 before the Billikens rallied to tie the game in the fifth. Adrienne May began the rally when she reached on an error. Kristin Rossi put down a sac bunt, and Beth Puttcamp had a ball misplayed by the Lady Jacks to drive in May for the first SLU run. Kerri Higgins grounded out to first and Puttcamp moved over to third on the play. Melissa Quist laced an RBI single as the Billikens tied the game at 2-2. However, Stephen F. Austin took the lead when Chandler had a sac fly to drive in Sarah Stone for the winning run.

The Billikens drop to 0-5 on the season, while Stephen F. Austin improves to 15-13.
