Final Stats
St. Louis -
DePaul's Lindsay Chouinard kept the Saint Louis softball team hitless for six innings and settled for a two-hitter in a 4-0 win in the series finale on Thursday afternoon at The Billiken Sports Center. The teams split a doubleheader the day before, with SLU winning 1-0 and the Blue Demons taking game two 9-4.
DePaul scored the only run it would need in the top of the fourth. Saskia Roberson singled to lead off the inning, and Sarah Douglas moved pinch runner Laura Visin up to second with a sac bunt. Katy Kukman doubled to centerfield to plate the game's first run. The Blue Demons sealed the game with three runs in the fifth. With two on and two out, Sarah Douglas launched a ball over the rightfield fence to push the Blue Demons' lead to 4-0. The cushion was more than enough for DPU's Chouinard. She was perfect through five innings until surrendering a walk to pinch hitter AshLeigh Williams to begin the sixth. Chouinard did not give up a hit until Kerri Higgins outran a ball deep to the hole for the Billikens' first hit of the game. Adrie Bogaars double to right center to put runners at second and third, but Chouinard retired the last SLU hitter to keep the shutout intact. She picked up her 10th win of the season. Billiken pitcher Nicole Bohnenstiehl, who had 32 strikeouts in a row without a walk, finally gave up a free pass in the fourth inning. She had faced 112 batters without giving up a walk.
Saint Louis is now 7-7 overall, 4-5 in Conference USA.. DePaul improves to 18-4, 5-1 in C-USA. The Billikens host UAB for a three-game series this weekend, with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Sat., March 29.
