Louisville, Ky. - The Saint Louis University softball team split a doubleheader at Louisville on Saturday in Conference USA action. The Billikens used a late rally for a 3-1 win in game one. The Cardinals broke open game two early and cruised to a 9-0 decision in the second game. The Billikens are 14-11 overall, 7-9 in Conference USA. The Cardinals move to 18-15 overall, 9-4 in C-USA.

Louisville took a 1-0 lead in the second after a SLU fielding error. The Billikens were held off the scoreboard until breaking through in the sixth. Ashlee Heady was hit by a pitch and Nicole Bohnenstiehl reached on a UofL fielding error. Beth Yagge singled to center, but an outstanding defensive relay by the Cardinals nailed Heady at home to keep SLU off the board. However, AshLeigh Williams singled to left to score pinch runner Beth Puttcamp to tie the game 1-1. In the seventh, the Billikens received clutch hitting to take an important win over the Cards. Adrienne May singled, and Cori Bittick reached on another UofL error. Melissa Quist put down a sac bunt to move both runners over. After a ground out, Heady came through with a two-out double to score the winning runs. The Cardinals got the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Bohnenstiehl induced a foul out to Quist to end the game. Bohnenstiehl held Louisville, the second-best hitting team in the league, to just four hits and struck out five for her 11th win of the season.

In the second game, Louisville scored in the second, third and fourth innings in a 9-0 win that lasted five innings. The Cardinals scored three in the second for the only runs they would need. Lisa McMillan doubled in two runs and Nicole Sparks drew a bases loaded walk. In the fourth, McMillan doubled in two more runs as the Cardinals eased to the win. The Billikens got runners to second and third in the fourth inning, but could not break through for any runs. Jessica Rak limited the Billikens to just three hits to earn the win, while Kristin Rossi took the loss for the Bills.

The teams will play a single game on Sunday at Noon (CT) to finish up the series.
