April 13, 2003

Final Stats

Louisville, Ky. - The Saint Louis University softball team squandered numerous scoring chances and instead dropped a 2-0 decision at Louisville in Conference USA play on Sunday. The Cardinals tallied two runs in the bottom of the first and held the Billikens off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

The Billikens had a chance to take an early lead when they loaded the bases in the top of the first. However, they were unable to get a two-out hit and were held scoreless. In the bottom of the inning, Louisville's Shannon Nord singled to lead off the inning. She then stole second and scored on Nicole Sparks' double. Keola Calderon followed with a single to put the Cardinals up 2-0. The Billikens again loaded the bases in the third, but one again could not get a two-out RBI. SLU had runners in scoring position in the second, fourth and sixth innings, but UofL starter Jessica Rak avoided trouble to keep the Billikens scoreless. Rak held the Bills to just four hits to pick up the win. Krystle Herold pitched a perfect seventh to pick up her first save of the season. Nicole Bohnenstiehl struck out eight in going the distance for the Billikens, but took the loss. Louisville improves to 19-15, 10-4 in Conference USA. The Billikens dip to 14-12 overall, 7-10 in the league.
