Adrienne May Scores Winning Run On Wild Pitch In Sixth

April 19, 2003

Final Stats

St. Louis - Saint Louis' Adrienne May sprinted home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning for the only score of the contest as the Billikens edged Southern Miss 1-0 in Conference USA softball play. May ended a pitching duel that saw each team register just one hit. She reached first on a throwing error by Southern Miss' Ashley Brenen and advanced to second on the error. May then advanced to third on Kerri Higgins' ground out. Southern Miss pitcher Danielle Wymer threw a wild pitch, and May slid in for the winning run. The Billikens won their second 1-0 game of the series and improve to 16-13 overall, 9-11 in Conference USA. Southern Miss falls to 21-26, 7-11 in C-USA.

SLU starter Nicole Bohnenstiehl picked up her second 1-0 shutout win of the three-game series. The senior gave up a single in the top of the first to Tammy Edwards, but was perfect the rest of the way, retiring the last 19 batters of the game. Bohnenstiehl had six strikeouts in the game to win her 13th game of the year. Southern Miss' Wymer was equally brilliant and had a no-hitter for 5-2/3 innings. The lone hit she gave up was a single down the leftfield line by Beth Yagge. She had two strikeouts and only allowed four baserunners the entire game.
