Billiken Softball Sweeps Bradley In Dramatic Fashion

April 28, 2003

Final Stats

St. Louis - In the final home games of the season, the Saint Louis University softball team swept Bradley in dramatic fashion at The Billiken Sports Center. The Billikens used a two-hitter from Nicole Bohnenstiehl to post a 1-0 over the Braves in game one. Bohnenstiehl broke her own single-season strikeout record during the game and had 215 after the first game. In the bottom of the seventh inning of game two, senior Adrie Bogaars blasted a walk-off solo home run as the Billikens rallied for a 4-3 victory.

The Billikens scored the only run of the first game in the fourth inning and Nicole Bohnenstiehl made it stand up. Adrie Bogaars singled to lead off and Jessica Saucedo pinch ran for her. Adrienne May put down a sac bunt, and Saucedo moved to third on Beth Puttcamp's groundout. Melissa Quist ripped a single to left to plate Saucedo. After a single in the second, Bradley did not get another hit until the sixth. With one out, Courtney Monroe reached on a SLU error, and Stefanie Cheney singled to right. But Bohnenstiehl worked a strikeout and a foulout to end the threat to pick up her 16th win of the season. She struck out 11 and walked just one.

The Braves led 3-1 going into the sixth, but the Billikens fashioned a dramatic comeback to complete the sweep. Bradley used two hits and a SLU fielding error to go up 1-0 in the first. Bradley tacked on two more in the fourth with the help of two wild pitches and a SLU error. The Billikens began the comeback when Nicole Bohnenstiehl launched a solo home run on a full count to tie the game. With one out, Adrie Bogaars roped a 1-0 pitch over the leftfield fence for a walk-off home run. The blast was the first of the season for Bogaars and made Bohnenstiehl a winner. Bohnenstiehl took over for Billiken starter Kristin Rossi who gave four strong innings. Bohnenstiehl gave up just one hit in three innings of work and struck out six.

The Billikens have won three straight and improve to 20-15. The Braves dip to 14-34. Saint Louis is next in action tomorrow with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Southeast Missouri State.
