Final Stats
Greenville, N.C. -
The Saint Louis University softball team dropped a Conference USA doubleheader at East Carolina by a score of 2-1 in both games on Saturday. The Billikens had the chance to clinch a spot in the C-USA Tournament with a victory but fell short. The Bills can still clinch a berth in the tourney with either a win on Sunday over ECU, or with a UAB loss to Southern Miss.
In the first game, the Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Kate Manuse. The Billikens got one run back in the fifth when Adrienne May singled and scored on a wild pitch. The Billikens were not able to tally the game-tying run. Nicole Bohnenstiehl allowed just the three hits in the first and struck out nine without walking anyone, but took the loss as the Billikens' offense could also muster just three hits.
The Billikens scored the first run of game two when Nicole Bohnenstiehl again limited ECU to just four hits and had eight strikeouts, but the SLU offense could only muster the single tally.
The Billikens fall to 21-17 overall, 9-13 in Conference USA. East Carolina improves to 23-31 overall, 4-19 in C-USA. The teams play a single game on Sunday at Noon (CT). The game is the regular-season finale for both teams.
