Final Stats

Charlotte, N.C. - Adrienne May had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Saint Louis softball team to an 8-0 victory over Lafayette on Sunday. The game, which went six innings, was part of the Charlotte Tournament.

SLU starter Ashley Levan was outstanding in the circle. The freshman limited Lafayette to just three hits and finished with seven strikeouts. Levan got the only run she would need in the first. May led the game off with a hit and immediately stole second. She took third on a fly out and scored on a Kara Sell RBI ground out. The Billikens' second run was similarly manufactured in the third. Ashlee Heady reached on a fielder's choice, and she stole second to move into scoring position. Sell again delivered and RBI with a single up the middle for a 2-0 Billiken lead.

The Bills ended the game early with three-run frames in the fifth and sixth. With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Beth Schomaker drew a bases-loaded walk to force in May. Katie Hoffarth then chased home two more runs with a double down the left field line. In the sixth inning, Samantha Horn walked and took second on a Tiffany Thurow infield single. May doubled in a run, and Burns' fielder's choice plated the seventh SLU run. May eventually scored on a Lafayette error to close out the game.

The Billikens won their second straight and improve to 6-9 on the season. The Leopards remain winless on the season at 0-4. After a long road trip, the Billikens host their home opener on Wed., March 16, when UMKC visits The Billiken Sports Center for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
