Game One Stats

Game Two Stats

St. Louis - The Saint Louis softball team posted its third consecutive shutout by sweeping UMKC in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at The Billiken Sports Center. The Bills took game one 3-0 and game two 4-0. In their last outing prior to today, the Billikens blanked Lafayette 8-0. Saint Louis has not allowed a run in its last 21-1/3 innings. The last SLU opponent to score was Charlotte with two outs in the top of the seventh on Sat., March 12.

In game one, the Billikens scored the only run they would need in the fourth inning with the help of two UMKC fielding errors. Beth Schomaker drew a two-out walk, and Christy Ernst came on as a pinch runner. Jenna Renner reached on a UMKC error, and Ernst scored on another error by the Kangaroos.

The Billikens sealed the win with two runs in the sixth. Ernst was at third, when the Billikens squeezed in the next run on a Jody Herbert bunt. Adrienne May singled in the final run of the game. SLU starter Lorena Floccari was outstanding. She held UMKC to just two hits and finished with five strikeouts. The Kangaroos only pushed two runners into scoring position.

In the second contest, Billiken pitcher Ashley Levan dominated with a one-hitter and only allowed four UMKC players to reach base, two on Billiken errors. Levan gave up only a sharp single up the middle by Jamie McGrath in the fourth and had three strikeouts.

The Billikens scored a run in the first when May singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. In the third, May and Ashlee Heady both singled and scored on Kara Sell's double to the left field wall. The Bills closed out the scoring when Heady doubled and came around to score on a UMKC error

The Billikens have won four straight and improve to 8-9. The Kangaroos fall to 4-17 on the season. The Bills open Conference USA play this weekend with a series against Southern Miss.
