St. Louis - Southern Illinois took advantage of a strong wind blowing to the outfield and powered to a doubleheader sweep over Saint Louis on Wednesday evening. The Salukis blasted eight home runs in posting 8-1 and 9-1 wins over the Billikens.

The game one was scoreless through three innings until the Salukis pushed across a run in the fourth on Katie Jordan's solo home run. SIU went up 5-0 when Jordan launched a grand slam in the fifth. The Billikens got one run back in the sixth. Adrienne May singled to start the frame, and Kara Sell pounded a triple to left to drive in the first SLU run. However, the Salukis sealed the win with two runs in the seventh. Saluki starter Cassidy Scoggins won her eighth straight game. SLU pitcher Lorena Floccari registered six strikeouts but took the loss.

The Billikens touched SIU for a run in the bottom of the first. Adrienne May singled and moved into scoring position on Kara Sell hit. Logan Justice registered a two-out RBI to give the Billikens a 1-0 lead. The Salukis answered with five home runs in the second game to close out the doubleheader. After surrendering three hits in the first, SIU's Amy Harre gave up only two hits the rest of the way to record the win. Tiffany Thurow went the distance for the Billikens and had three strikeouts.
