Marietta, Ga. - The Billiken softball team ran into national powers Georgia Tech and Purdue and suffered two losses in day two of the Buzz Classic in Marietta, Ga. The Bills fell 10-0 to the No. 19 Yellow Jackets and 6-3 to the Boilermakers. The Billikens are now 2-5 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets launched three home runs and posted a five-inning victory. Christine Sheridan hit a two-run homer in the first, and Laura Schlechte nailed another two-run homer in the second to stake Georgia Tech to an early 4-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets sealed their 18th win of the season with six runs in the fourth. The Billikens had scoring chances late but could not push across a run as they only mustered two hits in the game. In the fourth, Adrienne May led off with a single and stole second, but she later was erased on the basepaths. AshLeigh Williams reached on a single to open the fifth and moved to second on a grounder by Kara Sell. But Williams was stranded in scoring position.

In the evening game against Purdue, the Billikens rallied from an early four-run deficit but fell short in the 6-3 defeat. Purdue scored two runs in the first inning and added two more in the fifth for a 4-0 lead. The Billikens answered in the sixth with three runs. Christy Ernst singled and took third on May's ground out. Ernst moved to third on Katie Hoffarth's infield single and scored on Sell's RBI grounder. Williams then pounded out her second home run of the season to pull the Billikens to 4-3. However, the Boilers sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ashley Levan only gave up four hits in 4-1/3 innings but two of the hits were home runs.
