Billikens Earn A Split At East Carolina

Greenville, N.C. - The Saint Louis Billikens earned a split of a softball doubleheader at East Carolina on Wednesday. The Billikens won game one 4-2, but the Pirates rallied to take game two 7-5. The Billikens move to 4-7 on the season, 1-2 in Conference USA. The Pirates are now 24-5, 2-1 in C-USA.

In the first game, the Bills jumped on top in the first. Adrienne May walked, and Ashlee Heady doubled her in. Heady took third on a sac bunt, and she scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 SLU lead. Katie Hoffarth led off the third with a walk and advanced to second on a ground out. Heady drove her in with an RBI single down the left line. Christy Ernst plated Heady with a single up the middle as Ashley Levan picked up the win. Lorena Floccari notched the first save of the season for the Bills. SLU handed ECU's Brently Bridgeforth her first loss of the season after seven wins.

Game two started off well for the Billikens. After East Carolina took an early 1-0 lead, Adrienne May singled in Ashlee Heady smacked a three-run homer for a 4-1 SLU lead. The Pirates got one run back in the bottom of the third, but May led off the fifth by reaching on an error and scoring for a 5-2 Billiken advantage. However, East Carolina used five hits to push across five runs in the fifth to rally for the victory.

The Billikens stay in North Carolina and play in a tournament hosted by Charlotte this weekend. First up for SLU is a game against North Dakota State on Friday.
