Freshman pitcher Lorena Floccari pitched Saint Louis to a doubleheader sweep at Eastern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon. The Billikens won game one 5-0 and took game two 6-3. Floccari shut out the Panthers in the first game, and she earned the save in game two as she worked 10 innings during the doubleheader.
In the first game, Kara Sell singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. AshLeigh Williams then doubled to drive in the only run the Billikens would need. In the fourth, Katie Hoffarth launched a two-run homer to push the SLU lead to 3-0. Christy Ernst lashed an RBI double in the fifth to bring home Logan Justice, and the Bills closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh on Samantha Horn's solo home run. Floccari finished the game with five strikeouts and notched her 10th win of the season.
The Billikens jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and held off a late Eastern Illinois rally to complete the sweep. Christy Ernst drilled a single to right to push the Bills' lead to 3-0. The Billikens tacked on a run in the second when Heady's RBI singled plated pinch runner Logan Justice. Eastern Illinois cut into the Billiken lead with single run in the fourth off SLU starter Ashley Levan. Floccari came on in the fifth and gave up single runs in the next two innings, but Eastern Illinois would not get any closer.
The Billikens improve to 15-20 overall, while the Panthers fall to 9-20. SLU is again in action on Thursday with a doubleheader at Southeast Missouri State.
