The Saint Louis Billikens dropped a 3-2 decision to the UAB Blazers to close out a Conference USA series on Saturday afternoon at The Billiken Sports Center. The Bills won the first game of the set, but the Blazers rallied to take the last two tilts.
The Blazers struck in the top of the first for a run when Sara Christophel doubled in Lindsay Stanley. The Billikens took the lead in the second when Logan Justice drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single. Katie Hoffarth and Ashlee Heady scored to hand the Bills a 2-1 lead. UAB responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. With runners on second and third, Carrie Christophel singled to left as the Blazers went up 3-2. The pitchers began to take control as both teams were unable to generate any offense. SLU starter Lorena Floccari settled down to retire the next seven UAB hitters. Blazers' reliever Amanda Antonovich kept the Billikens in check by setting down all 12 batters she faced to pick up the win.
The Billikens are now 11-17 overall, 4-8 in C-USA. The Blazers are 17-25, 4-8 in the league. The Bills are next in action at Western Illinois on Tue., April 5.
