Game Two Stats
Louisville, Ky. -
The Louisville Cardinals used two different approaches to sweep Saint Louis in a Conference USA doubleheader on Sunday. The Cardinals pounded out a school-record 18 runs to win game one 18-2, but then won a pitching duel 1-0 in game two.
The Billikens gave up eight runs in the first as Louisville jumped out to an early lead and cruised. The Cardinals scored in every inning and finished with 20 hits in the game. The Billikens scored their two runs in the third frame. Jill Pursell drove in a run with an RBI single, and Samantha Horn drew a bases loaded walk to force in the second SLU run.
In game two Louisville's Catherine Bishop out-dueled SLU starter Lorena Floccari as the Cards edged the Billikens. Lacy Wood hit a solo home run in the fourth for the game's only run. Bishop did not surrender a hit until Kara Sell singled to begin the fifth. Jenna Renner reached on a fielder's choice, and she took second on a Katie Hoffarth walk. However, Bishop retired the next two SLU hitters to escape trouble. The Billikens put runners on in the sixth and seventh, but they were unable to push across the tying run. Floccari only gave up five hits and registered five strikeouts in the game.
The Billikens fall to 18-28-1, 4-17 in C-USA. Louisville improves to 32-11, 13-4 in C-USA.
