ST. LOUIS - Indiana State scored nine runs over the final two innings for a 14-9 victory against Saint Louis Tuesday in non-conference baseball action at The Billiken Sports Center.
SLU falls to 8-9, while Indiana State improves to 8-5. The Billikens are back at it tomorrow when they host Evansville at The BSC in a 3 p.m. first pitch.
ISU's big inning came in the ninth, when it launched four home runs in a row, including a grand slam by Luke Fieser. Those seven runs erased a 9-7 deficit and ultimately lifted the Sycamores to the 14-9 decision.
Indiana State totaled four doubles and a single in a 3-run first inning, but SLU slimmed its deficit with two runs in the bottom of the second despite not recording a hit. Ben Braaten walked, J.D. Dunn drew a walk to load the bases. Connor Gandossy walked to plate Braaten, and Mike Levine lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 after two innings.
Indiana State scored two in the top of the third, but SLU responded by scoring seven runs over a two-inning span to take a 9-5 lead after five.
In the fourth, Levine belted a solo home run to make it 5-3. Later, Danny Brock home run to straight-away center as the Billikens evened the score at 5-5 after four innings of play.
In the fifth, Myers launched a solo home run on the first pitch he saw to give the Billikens a 6-5 lead. Later in the inning, Zach Miller drove in a run on and infield single, and Brock posted a two-out, two-run single to give the Billikens a 9-5 lead.
That remained the score until the eighth, when ISU would score the final nine runs of the contest.
In the ninth, the Sycamores loaded the bases with one out before Fieser launched a grand slam off SLU reliever Marco Mejia (1-1). Robby Ort, Jeremy Lucas and Bryan Chestnut would follow with home runs, giving the Sycamores four homers in the inning.
SLU reliever Matt O'Neal pitched well in the no-decision, going six innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits. He struck out two and walked two.
Brock was 3-for-5 with four RBIs at the plate, while Levine went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
