PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Bryant Cotton pitched eight shutout innings and Jon Myers cracked two home runs as the Saint Louis Billikens topped Duquesne 7-2 in the final game of the Buckeye Invitational in Port Charlotte, Fla.
The win evens the Billikens' record at 6-6. In four games in the three-day Buckeye Invitational, SLU posted a 2-2 record, with its other win coming yesterday against No. 16 Ohio State. Up next for Saint Louis is a Tuesday afternoon matchup against Western Illinois at The Billiken Sports Center. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
Cotton did not allow a run in eight innings, scattered just four hits and struck out a career-high 12. His previous career high for Ks in a game was nine, accomplished last season against Richmond.
Myers hit two home runs in a game for the second time this season. Ben Braaten went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Mike Levine was 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
The Billikens led 3-0 late in the game and opened up a 7-0 lead with a four-run ninth. Duquesne mounted a late rally and scored two in the bottom of the ninth before SLU closed out the game to secure the 7-2 win.
