BRONX, N.Y. - Saint Louis broke a 2-2 tie and then some after pushing across seven runs in the top of the ninth to hand the Billikens a 9-2 win at Fordham Sunday in the finale of a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference baseball series at Houlihan Park.
Saint Louis moves to 19-18 overall and 7-5 in the A-10, while Fordham dips to 12-22, 7-5 in the league.
The Billikens scored nine unanswered runs in the win, including a seven-run ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie. J.D. Dunn started things after drawing one-out walks, and both later scored on an error and a Jon Myers single to give SLU the 4-2 lead.
After Danny Brock to make it 5-2. Connor Gandossy singled in a pair of runs to make it 7-2, and Cotter came up again later in the inning and drove in two more with a single for the eventual 9-2 victory.
SLU starter Mancuso retired the Rams in order in the bottom of the ninth to secure the complete-game victory, the Billiken pitching staff's third-straight complete game. He allowed two runs on nine hits, struck out three and walked none.
The game appeared to be headed for a pitcher's duel, as Mancuso and Fordham's Brian Pendergast shut down the opposition for the first four innings. The Rams struck first in the bottom of the fifth, going up 2-0 after recording three two-out hits.
SLU put a run on the board in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game. Myers led off the sixth with a double to right, and came around to score when Mancuso helped his own cause with a single through the right side.
The Billikens tied it up in the seventh, as Dunn lined his team-leading third triple of the season to reach with one out. Brock brought him home with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-2 after seven innings of play.
Saint Louis returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Missouri State at The Billiken Sports Center. The Bills resume A-10 play next weekend with a three-game series at Massachusetts.
