ST. LOUIS - Competing in its final events before next week's Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, Saint Louis' outdoor track and field squads participated in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the SIUE Twilight in Edwardsville, Ill., this weekend.
The highlight of the weekend was sophomore Brittney Cloudy's mark in the triple jump at the Drake Relays. She shattered her own school record in the event with a leap of 41 feet, eight inches, surpassing her previous best of 40-11.50. Her top mark of 41-8 is also tops in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season.
A record fell on the men's side as well, as Mark Zimmer turned in a school-record time of 48.88 in the 400-meter dash at the SIUE Twilight. It is the second consecutive week Zimmer has posted a school record after claiming the SLU standard in the 200 meters last weekend.
Also competing at the Drake Relays was Kalie Kirk, Tiffany Alexander, Cloudy and Ashley Roche ran the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 48.74. In the 4x400-meter relay, Roche, Alexander, Kirk and Mallory Dugger finished in a time of 4:00.43.
At the SIUE Twilight, Scott Vicker won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 9:49.46, while Jack Hostettler finished fourth in the 800 meters with a season best of 2:00.98. Caitlin McCarthy turned in a season best in the 800 meters, placing second with a time of 2:15.57.
The Billikens return to action next weekend at the A-10 Championships, which are slated to begin next Saturday at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass.
