ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis matched its season high with 17 hits en route to an 11-4 victory against SIU Edwardsville Wednesday in non-conference baseball action at The Billiken Sports Center.

Leading the Billikens (21-21) at the plate was sophomore Danny Brock went 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. He also registered an RBI, bringing his conference-leading total to 59, now just seven shy of the SLU single-season record. J.D. Dunn (two hits) and Steve Fernandez (two hits) also had productive days at the plate for the Bills.

Jerry Mancuso (5-4) was one of five pitchers who saw action for SLU. He allowed one unearned run on one hit in three innings of work. Jim Foster and Jon Levin each pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Billikens. In all, the Billiken pitching staff held the Cougars (12-28) to just four hits on the night.

SIUE opened the scoring in the top of the first when James Vazquez scored on a wild pitch, but the Billikens took the lead after pushing two runs across in the bottom of the first.

Dunn singled to left, Brock walked and Myers singled to right to load the bases with one down. Fernandez lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Dunn to make it a 1-1 game. Then, Miller stroked a single up the middle to plate Brock and give the Billikens a 2-1 advantage.

SLU led by one until the top of the fourth when the Cougars plated runs on an RBI triple by Thad Hawkins and an RBI groundout by Matt Highland to make it 3-2 SIUE.

The Billikens responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Mike Levine sacrifice fly, and SLU would go on to register at least a run an inning the rest of the way.

SLU scored three times in the fifth. Dunn walked, and eventually scored on a Brock double to right center. Fernandez plated Brock with an RBI base knock, and Miller drove in his second run of the game later in the frame to give the Billikens a 6-3 advantage.

Dunn singled in a run in the sixth, while Cotter registered an RBI single in the seventh to make it 8-3 Bills.

In the eighth, singles by Brock, Fernandez and Miller loaded the bases. Andrew Guerra then grounded out to score Miller to give SLU an 11-3 advantage.

SIUE plated a run in the top of the ninth, but SLU reliever Jason Bell got a strikeout and a groundout to end the game and secure the 11-4 victory for the Billikens.

The season series between SLU and SIUE is now tied at 1-1. The two squads will meet for the third and final time May 12 at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill.

Saint Louis returns to action in a crucial three-game series against Atlantic 10 Conference foe St. Bonaventure this weekend. Game one is set for Friday at 7 p.m. The Billikens are 8-7 in league play and are tied for fifth in the A-10 standings with four other clubs.
