ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis outdoor track and field surpassed several school records this weekend at the Washington University Invitational at Bushyhead Track at Francis Field.
The men's team finished third out of 25 schools in the meet, while the women took fifth out of 17.
Leading the way for the men's squad was Justin Kwasa, who posted new school records in the discus (145-1) and shot put (42-3.50). He also finished first in the hammer with a heave of 168-06.
Andrew Wyble also scored in the event with an eight-place finish of 16.61. Smiles and Mike Collins finished second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 54.52 and 56.14.
Neal Rodrigues placed seventh in the event with a time of 33:08.27.
David Whelan crossed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.02.
The men's 4x400- and 4x100-meter relay squads both finished fourth. The 4x100 was made up of Whelan, Patrick Kotecki, Collins and William Whitehead, and turned in a time of 43.13. The 4x400, comprised of Zimmer, Whelan, Kotecki and Whitehead, finished in a time of 3:24.71.
On the women's side, Brittney Cloudy had another record setting day after posting a school-record mark of 18-2.25 in the long jump, which was good for second. She also won the triple jump with a leap of 38-4.75.
Kalie Kirk established the school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a second-place time of 1:04.24. She also finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.93. Michaela Jones also scored in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a sixth-place time of 1:08.23.
Tiffany Alexander placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 59.63, while Caitlin McCarthy turned in a second-place finished in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.59.
Amanda Labuz was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with at time of 12:28.63, and Elise Medley turned in a seventh-place showing in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:03.77.
The women's 4x400-meter relay finished second with a time of 4:01.27. That squad consisted of Ashley Roche, Alexander, McCarthy and Dugger.
The Billikens return to action next weekend when they travel to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Invitational.
