Billikens Complete Day One at A-10 Championships

AMHERST, Mass. - Saint Louis surpassed four school records and achieved numerous personal bests Saturday in the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the UMass Track and Field Complex. Action resumes tomorrow morning.

Brittney Cloudy placed sixth in the long jump with a school-record mark of 18-3.75. She is in action again Sunday in the triple jump, an event in which she is the two-time defending conference champion in indoor.

Also on the women's side, Kalie Kirk posted the third-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles to advance to tomorrow's finals. She won her preliminary heat with a school-record time of 14.20, surpassing her old record of 14.40.

On the men's side, Dahmar Smiles will run in tomorrow's final in the 110-meter hurdles after crossing in a school-record time of 14.29 in the prelims, the third-fastest time of the day. Also on Sunday, Smiles will contend for the 400-meter hurdles title. He owns the league's fastest time in the event heading into the conference meet.

Justin Kwasa smashed his school record in the hammer throw, posting a mark of 180-9 to finish fourth. He also placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 142-6.

After eight events, the men's team sits in ninth, while the women's team is 12th overall.
