PHILADELPHIA - After a big fifth inning by Saint Louis, La Salle scored the final five runs of the game to post a 7-5 Atlantic 10 Conference baseball victory Friday at Hank DeVincent Field.
The Billikens (23-23, 10-9 A-10) and Explorers (16-26, 10-9 A-10) continue their three-game series tomorrow. First pitch is slated for noon (CT).
SLU fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the third before a big inning in the top of the fifth. The Billikens scored all five of their runs and registered all but one of their hits in the frame.
J.D. Dunn. With one out, Dunn plated a pair with a double to right center, giving the Bills a 3-2 lead.
SLU wasn't done scoring in the fifth. Brock drove in his team-leading 61st run of the year with an RBI groundout, and Jon Myers ripped a two-out double to left to drive in another run and give the Billikens a 5-2 advantage.
However, La Salle would score a run in the fifth and sixth innings to pull within one, and then plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 7-5 victory.
La Salle left-hander Eric Van Wyk turned in a strong outing for the Explorers. He allowed a two-out single in the fourth before yielding the five-run fifth. Van Wyk responded by retiring the Billikens in order over the final four innings en route to his fifth victory of the season.
Jerry Mancuso was charged with the loss after seven innings of work. Jon Levin worked a perfect eighth inning in relief.
