Box Score ST. LOUIS - Anna Church turned in a kill-dig double-double and a team-high
blocking total to lead Saint Louis to a 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19 Atlantic 10
Conference victory over Butler Saturday at Chaifetz Pavilion.
The Billikens
improved to 6-13 overall and 1-4 in the A-10, while Butler fell to 11-8, 1-4.
Church collected
a season-high 13 kills to go with 12 digs and a season-high four blocks. Lauren
Baumet
tallied 12 kills, while Carly Marcum registered 11 kills and a .308 attack percentage
(11-3-26).
Grace Bonoma led the Bills with 20 digs,
followed by Lindsey Dinkelacker with 13 and Cassie Clarke with 10. Clarke added 45
assists and two service aces.
Set one saw
Saint Louis race to a 12-6 lead and hold off a late Butler charge. The Bulldogs
drew to within two points on four occasions before the Billikens claimed the
set.
Butler was in
front throughout the second set and built a 22-15 cushion. SLU used a 6-1 run
to narrow the gap to 23-21, but the visitors scored the final two points to
even the match.
The Billikens
overcame a 10-6 deficit in set three to grab a 12-11 lead. Nine ties and six
lead changes ensued before Saint Louis recorded four of the final five points
to win the set.
SLU jumped out
to a 4-0 lead in set four, only to see Butler battle back to earn a 5-5 tie.
The Billikens regained control with three straight points, however, and held
the upper hand the rest of the set. The Bulldogs pulled to within a point three
times but could not manage to tie or take the lead.
The
Billikens are back in action Friday, Oct. 12, at VCU. Match time is scheduled
for 3:30 p.m. (CT).
