WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Saint Louis baseball team poured on the offense in the final outing against Mount St. Mary's in Winter Haven, Fla. The Billikens completed the series sweep with a 12-1 win over The Mount on Sunday. The game was limited to seven innings due to the run rule.
The junior trio of Steve Fernandez, Alex Kelly and Mike Levine led the Billikens with nine of the team's 12 hits. Fernandez went three-for-four with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Kelly was also three-for-four with a double and three runs. Levine went three-for-four with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base.
Sophomore pitcher Clay Smith picks up the win with 5.0 innings of shutout baseball with one hit and four strikeouts.
The Billikens are now 5-3 on the season. Next up for SLU is the competitve Coca-Cola Classic in Surprise, Ariz. In Arizona, the Billikens will face the likes of #13 Arizona State, #21 Oregon State, St. Mary's (Calif.) and Winthrop. The first game of the weekend will be Thurs., Mar. 1 at 4 p.m. against Arizona State.
