Pitching Propels Billikens Past Winthrop

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Saint Louis baseball team wrapped up the Coca-Cola Classic with a 6-2 victory over Winthrop in Surprise, Ariz. With the win, the Billikens are 7-5 this season.

Freshman RHP Nick Bates got the start and went five innings while allowing only two runs. He was relieved in the sixth by senior RHP Jerry Mancuso, who threw three scoreless innings. Redshirt senior RHP Travis Parker closed the game for SLU with a shutout ninth.

The Bills had a big second inning, sending four across the plate. Junior Mike Levine had a two RBI double and junior Alex Kelly followed suit with a two RBI base knock of his own. Kelly tacked on another RBI in the ninth.

Next up for Saint Louis will be a Tuesday trip to Cape Girardeau, Mo. where the Billikens will take on the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
