ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University head women's basketball coach Lisa
Stone is a
member of the inaugural class of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference Hall of Fame. Stone and 29 others will be inducted Aug. 4 as part of
the WIAC Centennial Celebration Banquet in Madison, Wis.
"I am extremely
honored to be inducted into the WIAC Hall of Fame," Stone said. "My career at
UW-Eau Claire was a wonderful time that created many fond memories."
Stone took the
UW-Eau Claire women's basketball program to a level of national prominence
during a record-setting 12-year career at the institution (1988-2000).
For a program
that never had won more than 17 games in a season or finished higher than third
in the conference, Stone raised the bar in her first year and never let it
slip. She guided the Blugolds to 20-win seasons and first- or second-place
conference finishes in 11 of her 12 campaigns.
Stone took her
team to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals in six of the program's 11 national
tournament appearances. Eau Claire was the national runner-up in 1997 and
placed third in 1994. Her 1999-2000 team won its first 28 games before losing
to eventual national champion Washington University in the second round of the
NCAA tourney. Stone registered an .824 winning percentage (277-59), and her
teams won 90 percent of their home games.
Stone
was named WIAC Coach of the Year five times and earned WBCA Division III
National Coach of the Year honors in 1997. Earlier this year, she was selected
as the WIAC All-Time Co-Coach in women's basketball in conjunction with the
WIAC Centennial Celebration.
