Box Score ST. LOUIS - The Billiken field hockey team fell to Saint Joseph's 3-1 in Philadelphia. Freshman Jenell Murphy scored her second goal of the season in the 65th minute. Saint Louis is now 1-16 overall and 0-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the game. Saint Joseph's led 2-0 into the break.
In the second half, the Billikens played tough. They held the Hawks scoreless through the first 19 minutes of the second half before a SJU goal trickled through SLU goalie Tori Westhead's pads. Westhead made the initial stop, but the ball managed to sneak though and cross the line.
Murphy scored her goal in the 65th minute. Senior Megan Rogers brought the ball into the circle from the top and sent a ball to the front of the cage. Murphy was waiting and put the ball through for her second goal of the year.
After the initial rush, goalie Westhead was solid, collecting eight saves in the contest.
The Billikens return to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 when they take on La Salle in Philadelphia. First whistle is slated for 11 a.m. (CT).
