Box Score ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis baseball team dropped a nail-biter to Western Illinois, 7-6. The two teams traded runs all game, but in the end, a ninth-inning double from WIU won the day. Senior RHP Marco Mejia (0-1) is tabbed with the loss. The Billikens are now 10-7 on the year.
The first inning was a tough start for SLU. The Leathernecks put three runs on the board in the opening frame.
In the second, the Bills answered back with a run of their own. Mike Levine hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Mike Vigliarolo and bring the score to 3-1.
Alex Kelly hit a two-run bomb to left center in the third to tie the game at three with three innings played.
The game would not stay tied for long, as Western Illinois plated two more runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.
Saint Louis whittled away at the lead with an Alec Solé RBI single in the sixth. In the seventh, Kelly scored on the Leathernecks' fourth error of the game. Through seven innings, the score was tied at five.
Western Illinois took a lead in the eighth on an RBI single. However, the Billikens immdiately tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a Kelly sacrifice fly.
In the final frame, Western Illinois blasted the double that won the game.
Despite the loss, Kelly had a terrific game. He went two-for-four with two runs scored, three RBIs and his third home run of the season.
The Billikens will get a rematch against the Leathernecks tomorrow at the Billiken Sports Center. Junior LHP Damian Rivera will take the hill for SLU. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
