PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. - Saint Louis split a two-game series with the Wolverines of Michigan. The Billikens took game one 8-5, and Michigan took game two 11-0. The Bills are now 7-3 on the year. Sophomore RHP Nick Bates gets the win in game one and is 2-1. Freshman Matt Eckelman picked up the save, the first of his career. Junior RHP Clay Smith gets the loss in game two. He falls to 2-1.

Game one was highlighted by an outstanding performance from Bates. He went seven innings with five strikeouts and three walks. He limited a potent Michigan offense to only two runs on six hits. Offensively the Bills were paced by junior Danny Brennan and senior C.J. Rose. Brennan was three-for-four with two runs and a stolen base. Rose was two-for-four with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

The Wolverines came back in the second game with a vengeance. They scored six runs in the first three innings. Saint Louis was unable to get the bats going. The Billikens were limited to two hits through the first six innings. In all, Michigan collected 11 runs on 16 hits.

Michigan is the first team to keep Grant Nelson off the bases, halting his hit streak at nine games.

The Billikens will conclude their stay in Florida with a meeting against Maine tomorrow, Mar. 3 at 10:00 a.m. CST.
