Box Score ST. LOUIS - Saint
Louis baseball crushed North Dakota by a score of 12-0. SLU is now 8-4 on the
year. Freshman Matt Eckelman picked
up the win in his first college start. He went three innings on a staff day,
collecting two strikeouts and allowing four. In the game, the Billikens
collected 14 hits on 28 at bats.
The Bills did most of their damage in a huge third inning.
Braxton
Martinez hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to center to score Alec Solé from third. Grant Nelson then ripped a single up the
middle, scoring Michael Bozarth. Mike Vigliarolo, blasted a
double to score Alex Kelly and Nelson and bring the tally to 4-0 Saint Louis with only one out. Vigliarolo scored on a throwing error from the UND catcher. The inning's leadoff man, Solé came to the plate
again and ripped a single to score another run. Bozarth singled the next at
bat, scoring C.J. Rose. The next batter was Kelly, who raked a double off the top
of the wall, to score the final two runs of the frame. In all, the Billikens
scored nine runs on seven hits with six stolen bases.
Also in the third inning, the Billikens executed three successful double steals for six total stolen bases in the inning. Prior to the game, SLU had only eight steals in 11 games this season.
The Bills tacked on two more runs on a Rose sacrifice fly
and a UND wild pitch. Saint Louis score their 12th and final run in
the fifth on an A.J. VanderVorste
sacrifice fly.
The game was ended in the seventh inning due to a
predetermined run rule.
Saint Louis will now head to San Diego, Calif. to partake in
the University of San Diego tournament. The Billikens will play Michigan for
the third time this season on March 8 to open the tournament. First pitch is scheduled
for 4:00 p.m. CST.
