Billikens Win 25th with 8-4 Victory Over Milwaukee

Box Score

ST. LOUIS - The Billiken baseball squad won its 25th game of the season with an 8-4 win over Milwaukee. Senior Jon Levin (2-0) gets the win after throwing 2.1 shutout innings. The Bills rise to 25-11 overall, the best overall record in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The third meeting of the series was a tough game pitchers and hitters alike. Winds were gusting at up to 30 mph for a majority of the matchup. Milwaukee got on the board first with a three-run third inning. However, the Billikens responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Saint Louis took a lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Braxton Martinez sacrifice fly to score Alex Kelly from third.

The Panthers tied the game in the sixth on a bases-loaded hit by pitch, drawing the tally to 4-4.

The Billiken offense came through in the seventh. Despite two quick outs, Danny Brennan started a rally, taking a fastball off the arm to earn a free base. C.J. Rose drove him to second on a single through the left side. Senior Mike Levine broke the tie with an RBI single up the middle, plating Brennan. The Milwaukee center fielder's throw was off line, allowing Levine to reach second and Rose to third. The next batter was Jake Henson, who hit a tough grounder to first. The UWM first baseman bobbled it, allowing Henson to reach safely and two runs across the plate. Through seven innings, SLU carried a 7-4 lead.

Brennan tacked on another run in the eighth on an RBI single to right center, drawing the Billiken lead to 8-4.

The windy conditions helped to keep the fly balls in the park, but Levine and Grant Nelson each managed to get multiple hits. Nelson was two-for-five with two RBIs while Levine went three-for-four with an RBI and a run scored. Levine also extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the second-longest streak in the A-10 this season.

The Billikens will host Eastern Illinois on April 16 for their next matchup. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
