Billikens Defeat St. Bonaventure for Win No. 28

Box Score

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis scored 10 runs on 13 hits to defeat St. Bonaventure 10-4 this afternoon. Sophomore Nick Bates gets the win to rise to 6-2 on the season. The win was the Billikens' fourth in a row and their 11th over the last 12. Saint Louis is now 28-11 overall and 10-1 in Atlantic 10 play.

The Billikens rebounded from an early 1-0 deficit in the first, with each of the first four batters reaching safely. In the first frame alone, Saint Louis had three runs on six hits.

The Bills added three more runs in the third. Danny Brennan laced a double to deep center to score two. He later scored on a grounder to short.

In the fourth, the Bonnies led off with a solo home run. They later scored another run to draw the score to 6-3 through four.

St. Bonaventure made the game even closer in the fifth with an RBI single to left to cut the Billiken lead to 6-4. However, the Bills responded in the bottom of the frame with three runs of their own.

Entering the eighth, Saint Louis carried a 9-4 lead. Senior Steve Fernandez drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the inning to give SLU their 10th run of the game.

At the plate, the Billikens performed very well. Every Saint Louis player with an at bat had at least one hit and four Billikens had multiple hits. Brennan led the way, going two-for-four with a run scored and tied a career high with three RBIs.

Game three of the series takes place tomorrow, April 21 at noon at the Billiken Sports Center.
