Box Score ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis starting pitcher James Norwood tied a career high with nine strikeouts, but the Billikens fell to Wake Forest, 3-2. Damian Rivera (0-2) was hit with the loss. The Bills fall to 3-6 overall on the season.
Norwood was strong against the Demon Deacons. He threw five innings, allowing three walks, two hits and two earned runs.
Wake Forest and Saint Louis traded runs for the first six innings. The Demon Deacons scored first on a solo home run in the second, but the Billikens responded with an RBI single from Mike Vigliarolo in the third to tie the score at one. Wake Forest regained the lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to left. but a Danny Brennan RBI single up the middle knotted the score at two. The final WF run of the game came in the seventh, sealing a 3-2 defeat for SLU.
The Billiken offense outhit the Demon Deacons eight to five. Jake Henson paced the Bills on offense, going 2-3. Michael Bozarth was a force on the basepaths, swiping two bags in the contest.
Saint Louis will wrap up the weekend tomorrow, Mar. 2, when they take on Stony Brook. The Seawolves were the Cinderella story of the 2012 College World Series in Omaha, Neb. Sophomore Josh Moore will get the start for SLU.
