Billikens Come From Behind for 6-4 Win

Box Score

ST. LOUIS - The Billikens rallied from a 4-0 deficit through five innings to capture a 6-4 win over visiting Memphis at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Mo. Freshman Robert Plohr (1-2) got the win in relief, his first collegiate win. Matt Eckelman picked up his fifth save of the season. Eckleman is now tied at fourth on the single season saves list at Saint Louis, and tied for third all-time in career saves with nine.

The SLU offense was stifled for most of the game by Memphis starter Caleb Wallingford. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners at second and third, Danny Murphy hit a grounder to first. He showed tremendous hustle and slid into first just before the first baseman. This scored Mike Vigliarolo from third, scoring SLU's first run of the game and the first earned run surrendered by Wallingford this season.

In the seventh, Saint Louis got to the bullpen and took advantage. With one out and runners at second and third, Vigliarolo strode to the plate. He hit a ground ball just slow enough to score the runner from third and cut the deficit to 4-2. Braxton Martinez drove in another run in the next at bat with a single up the middle. Colton Frabasilio drove Martinez in with a double down the left field line, tying the score at 4.

The Billikens took the lead in the eighth. Danny Brennan came to bat with two outs and runners at second and third. On the second pitch he saw, Brennan ripped a ball up the middle, scoring two and giving SLU its first lead of the day.

In the ninth, Matt Eckelman entered with a two-run lead. He allowed a two-out double, but bounced back to strike out the final batter and seal the 6-4 win for Saint Louis.

The Bills host Memphis in a doubleheader tomorrow at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Game one starts at 1 p.m. with game two beginning 30 min. after the conclusion of the first game. Nick Bates will start the early game and Josh Moore will start the series finale.
