Box Score ST. LOUIS - The Billiken baseball team fell in extra innings for only the second time this season in a 2-1 loss to George Mason. Saint Louis falls to 23-16 overall and 11-4 in the Atlantic 10. Matt Eckelman (5-2) was hit with the loss.
The Patriots scored in the bottom of the fourth to open the game's scoring.
Saint Louis plated the equalizer in the top of the seventh on an RBI single from Michael Cusenza.
Neither team could score the winning run until a costly Billiken error in the 13th inning allowed the eventual winning run to advance to third. Mason hit a single to drive him in and defeat SLU 2-1.
James Norwood started the game for Saint Louis, throwing 6.1 IP allowing only one run and striking out five. At the plate, SLU freshman Danny Mannion went 3-5 and scored SLU's only run of the day.
The Billikens and Patriots will meet again for game two tomorrow at 1 p.m. (CT). Junior RHP Nick Bates will take the mound for Saint Louis.
