JACKSON, Miss. – Saint Louis put together an 11-hit attack against Belmont but dropped a 6-2 decision to the Bruins Friday at the Jackson State Tournament.
Mackenzie Peter collected three hits, and Alex Nickel and Brianna Lore had two hits apiece for the Billikens (4-4). Elizabeth Everingham swatted her first home run of the season, while Peter, Nickel, Lore, Lindsay Friedman and Allie Macfarlane all doubled. Alyssa Tarquinio chipped in with a single.
Belmont (2-3) scored single runs in the first and second and posted two-run innings in the third and fifth to build a 6-0 cushion.
SLU dented the scoreboard on Everingham's blast leading off the sixth. In the seventh, Nickel led off with a double and went to third on Peter's single. Friedman picked up an RBI with a ground ball that the second baseman booted, but that was the only run the Billikens scored.
Lore (1-3), who allowed just one earned run, was saddled with the loss. Maddie Baalman pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
The Billikens compete at the All-Missouri Classic in Springfield Feb. 28-March 1.
