HAMMOND, La. – Allie Macfarlane and Alyssa Tarquinio had two RBIs apiece, and Saint Louis exploded for seven first-inning runs in a 10-3 victory over host Southeastern Louisiana Saturday morning at the Lion Classic Scramble.
The Billikens improved to 6-5, while Southeastern Louisiana of the Southland Conference fell to 4-10.
Brianna Lore (2-4) tossed four shutout innings to register the win. Lore allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out four. Laney Kneib pitched the final three innings to record her first save of the season.
Alex Nickel's leadoff walk ignited the seven-run outburst. Elizabeth Everingham singled with one out, and a walk to Lore loaded the bases. Macfarlane delivered a two-run single to put Saint Louis on top.
After Lindsay Friedman's single re-loaded the bases, Tarquinio came through with a two-run single to increase the lead to 4-0. Hailey Weavers greeted a new pitcher with an RBI single to make it 5-0.
A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. Madeline Brungardt's ground ball scored Tarquinio, and Nickel singled to drive home Weavers with the seventh run of the inning.
The Bills added a run in the third. Brungardt drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on Mackenzie Peter's triple.
Southeastern Louisiana tallied three times in the fifth, but Saint Louis got two of those runs back in the seventh.
With one out, Macie Wheeler walked, Josie Knesel singled and Emma Buckles doubled to score Wheeler. Knesel was thrown out at the plate on a ground ball to the shortstop, but Everingham's two-out single plated Buckles to make it 10-3.
SLU's 13-hit attack also included singles by Macfarlane and Friedman in the second inning and a single by Buckles in the fifth.
The Billikens were slated to play Arkansas at noon.
