KENNESAW, Ga. – Elizabeth Everingham hit her second and third home runs of the season Friday to power Saint Louis to a 10-1, five-inning victory over Austin Peay at Kennesaw State's Owl Invitational.
Austin Peay grabbed a 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning, but it was all Saint Louis after that. The Billikens (8-6) scored three runs in their half of the first, five in the third and two in the fifth.
In the first, Alex Nickel led off with an infield single and went to third on the third baseman's throwing error. Hailey Weavers walked and stole second, and Nickel scored the tying run when the Austin Peay catcher made an errant throw trying to retire Weavers.
Mackenzie Peter flied out and Weavers was caught stealing. But Everingham drew a two-out walk, Allie Macfarlane recorded the first of her two doubles, and Lindsay Friedman delivered a two-run double.
Peter led off with third with a double, and Everingham followed with a home run for a 5-1 Saint Louis lead. Macfarlane singled and scored on Friedman's homer that made it 7-1.
Breanna Lockette drew a one-out walk, and pinch runner Miranda Cotton swiped second. Two-out free passes to Nickel and Weavers loaded the bases, and, following a dropped foul popup, Cotton scored on a wild pitch.
In the clinching fifth inning, Nickel led off with a walk and scored on Everingham's second two-run homer of the game that came with two away.
Winning pitcher Laney Kneib (3-0) went the distance. Kneib struck out three and allowed just four hits and two walks.
