Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis baseball scored 25 runs in two games as the Billikens defeated Saint Peter's 13-4 in game one and 12-1 in game two of the double header. Senior Clay Smith (3-0) earned the win in game one, the 19th of his career, moving him to fourth all-time at Saint Louis (tied with teammate Nick Bates). Mick Layton got the save, the first of his career. Josh Moore (1-1) got the win in game two with Robert Plohr (1) getting the save.
The Billikens are 6-6 on the year.
In game one, the Bills scored early and often, scoring three runs in the first, one in the second and five in the third. They added two runs in the fifth and eighth to round out the Saint Louis scoring. Saint Peter's rallied for four runs in the ninth, but SLU held on for a 13-4 win.
On the hill, Smith led the way with six shutout innings pitched, one hit and one walk while striking out four. Of the 18 batters he retired, 12 were via groundout.
Trent Leimkuehler was one of several Billikens with great performances in game one. He was 2-2 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs. Michael Bozarth went 2-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Jake Terrazas came of the bench to go 2-2 with a double and a run scored.
In game two, SLU scored twice in the first, but poured on six runs in the second to take a commanding 8-0 lead through three innings. The Billikens scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth to round out the SLU scoring. Saint Peter's again made a late rally, but the final tally was 12-1. The game was shortened to seven innings due to a predetermined run rule.
Moore was dominant on the hill in game two. He threw four innings, striking out eight and walking two without allowing an earned run.
At the plate, Colton Frabasilio went 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Bozarth was 1-3 scoring three runs, driving in one and stealing a base. The freshman duo of James Morisano and Alex King each went 2-3. Morisano tallied two runs and King had a run and three RBIs.
The Billikens and Saint Peter's will play games three and four in a double header tomorrow at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5 p.m. Game two will be held to seven innings due to time restrictions.
