KENNESAW, Ga. – Maddie Baalman allowed just one run and four hits in six innings, and Saint Louis scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Indiana 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Kennesaw State's Owl Invitational.
Baalman improved her record to 3-2 as the Billikens moved to 10-6 on the season. Saint Louis has won four straight and six of its last seven.
Laney Kneib registered her third save, relieving Baalman following a leadoff single in the Indiana seventh. Kneib allowed an infield single but closed the door with Hoosier runners at second and third.
SLU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Hailey Weavers led off with a single and advanced to second on Alex Nickel's one-out single. Weavers was tagged out by the shortstop on Mackenzie Peter's ground ball, but a throwing error in an attempt for a force out at second allowed Nickel to scoot to third. Lindsay Friedman made the Hoosiers pay with a two-out RBI single.
Indiana (4-17) scored the tying run in the fourth. In the Billiken seventh, Brianna Lore led off with a double, and pinch runner Brittany Durant moved to third on Alyssa Tarquinio's grounder back to the pitcher. Weavers plated Durant with the eventual game-winning tally on another ground ball to the pitcher.
Elizabeth Everingham singled twice, and Macie Wheeler delivered a pinch-hit single.
The Billikens play twice Sunday, facing Cleveland State at 9 a.m. (CT) and Northern Kentucky at 2 p.m.
