COLUMBIA, Mo. – Allie Macfarlane hit her second grand slam of the season to give Saint Louis the lead, but No. 21 Missouri rallied for a 10-6 victory over the Billikens Wednesday afternoon.
Trailing 5-1 after three innings, SLU (20-12) loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Emma Buckles sparked the rally with a single, Madeline Brungardt reached on an error and Alex Nickel was hit by a pitch. A walk to Lindsay Friedman scored Buckles to make it 5-2.
One out later, Macfarlane stepped to the plate and clubbed her seventh home run of the season to put the Billikens on top 6-5. The homer gave the freshman second baseman team highs of 34 RBIs and 27 two-out RBIs.
Missouri (23-7) tied it in the bottom of the inning, regained the lead with two runs in the fifth and scored twice more in the sixth.
In the seventh, SLU had runners at first and second with nobody out after Brianna Lore walked and Alyssa Tarquinio was hit by a pitch. Unfortunately for the Billikens, the game was halted by rain and could not be resumed.
Missouri tallied once in the first inning and four times in the second to grab a 5-0 lead.
Saint Louis scored its first run in the third. The Billikens had runners at first and second with nobody out following singles by Nickel and Friedman, but a 5-3 double play left Friedman at second with two away. She moved to third on a wild pitch and, after Macfarlane walked, scored on Lore's RBI single.
Buckles and Lore had two hits apiece, and Tarquinio registered a single.
The Billikens return to Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Rhode Island. First pitch for Friday's doubleheader and Saturday's single game is 11 a.m. (CT).
