Saint Louis to Honor 1965 College World Series Team

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University's Department of Athletics will celebrate the 1965 Saint Louis baseball team during Alumni Weekend Friday and Saturday May 1 - 2. This marks the 50-year anniversary of the 1965 team that went to the College World Series, finishing third in the NCAA that season.

The celebration will begin Friday with a pre-game barbecue at the Billiken Sports Center beginning at 5 p.m. The alumni will watch the current Billikens take on VCU at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Saint Louis will host a pre-game reception at 11:30.  Prior to the 2 p.m. first pitch, SLU will honor the 1965 team with an on-field ceremony. Several members of the team will be in attendance and will come on the field to be recognized.

The 1965 team won the Missouri Valley Conference with a 25-9-1 record. They hosted Missouri in the NCAA District 5 Tournament, defeating the Tigers 5-4 in both games of a doubleheader. Saint Louis then went to the College World Series, one of eight teams in the field. The Billikens defeated Connecticut 2-1 on June 7 before falling to Arizona State 13-3 on June 8. Saint Louis beat Florida State 5-3 on June 9 before being eliminated on June 10 by eventual champion Arizona State 6-2.
