Box Score ST. LOUIS - Senior first baseman Mike Vigliarolo ripped the 55th double of his career as the Billikens fell to Fordham 4-3. Saint Louis is now 28-13 overall and 9-4 in conference games. Starting pitcher Clay Smith (7-1) picked up the loss for the first time this season.
Vigliarolo passes Adam Gabris (1994-97) for the all-time doubles record at Saint Louis. He is the first Billiken to surpass 50 doubles in a career since the implementation of BBCOR bats in 2010.
Fordham opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs.
Alex King helped the Billikens get on the board in the top of the fifth with an RBI double down the right field line. However, Fordham plated two in the bottom of the fifth to bring the SLU deficit to 4-1.
Saint Louis scored again in the seventh on an RBI single from King, cutting the Ram lead to two.
In the top of the eighth, Vigliarolo hit his record-breaking double with one away. He lifted a ball down the left field line to earn the record and move into scoring position. He later scored on an RBI single from Danny Murphy, bringing the score to 4-3.
In the ninth, the Billikens rallied to load the bases with two away. Jake Henson hit a chopper to short and very nearly beat out the throw to first, but was just short as the Billikens lost for only the fourth time in conference play.
The Bills and Rams will continue the series tomorrow at 5 p.m. (CT) in the Bronx. Josh Moore will get the ball for SLU.
